I remember all the private fireworks going off when I lived here years before.
Before the trip, I was disappointed to read that the government had
banned private fireworks in the name of safety (after a number of people
died). The official fireworks display in Sai Gon at midnight on the Lunar
New Year's Eve did much to make up for that change. I've never seen
another fireworks display to compare with it!
They were fired from the grounds of the Nha
Rong building. (I never got to have that much fun when I worked there!)
These photos were taken leaning out of the window of our 12th floor hotel
room about four blocks away. (Not exactly "Patti, hold my ankles"
but close.)
